Krittika Nakshatra
Krittika is the third nakshatra, running from 26°40′ of Mesha to 10° of Vrishabha. If your Moon was here at birth, Krittika is your janma nakshatra. Its essence is fire that cuts and cleans: sharp clarity, high standards and warmth that protects.

Meaning of Krittika
Krittika means “the cutter”, from krit, to cut. In the sky it is the Pleiades cluster, the bright little group of stars seen in winter evenings. In the oldest Vedic lists, Krittika was counted as the first nakshatra, a sign of its importance.
Its ruling planet is the Sun (Surya), the soul and authority. Krittika is unusual because it is split across two signs: the first pada is in fiery Mesha, and the remaining three are in earthy Vrishabha, where the Moon is exalted.
Agni and the razor’s edge
The deity is Agni, the sacred fire, who carries every offering of the yajna to the gods. Fire purifies gold, cooks food and lights the home; it can also burn. The symbol of a razor or flame shows the same idea: something sharp that separates the useful from the useless.
In the Puranas, the six Krittika sisters nursed the infant Kartikeya, the commander of the gods, which is why he is called Kartikeya. So this star combines fierce courage with a mother’s care.
Nature and personality
Krittika natives are direct, principled and hardworking. They speak the truth even when it stings, dislike laziness and dishonesty, and often hold themselves to the strictest standard of all. Their Rakshasa gana (shown as Asura in some tables) gives strong independence and the courage to stand alone.
The same fire can make them critical or short-tempered when tired. Softening the words while keeping the honesty, and remembering the nurturing side of the Krittika sisters, makes them excellent guides, teachers and protectors.
The four padas of Krittika
Pada 1 (Dhanu navamsa, in Mesha rashi): idealistic and adventurous, the most fiery pada, with a love of dharma, teaching and leadership.
Pada 2 (Makara navamsa, in Vrishabha): disciplined and ambitious, practical about money and status, steady builders.
Pada 3 (Kumbha navamsa, in Vrishabha): humanitarian and inventive, drawn to groups, science and social causes.
Pada 4 (Meena navamsa, in Vrishabha): gentle, devotional and imaginative; the fire is turned towards faith and compassion.
Career and money
Krittika does well in roles with authority and precision: government service, administration, defence, surgery, engineering, metallurgy, and work with fire, such as cooking, bakeries and restaurants. Its sharp mind also suits editing, criticism, auditing and quality control. Many are respected teachers.
In money matters they are honest and prefer clean earnings. The Vrishabha padas especially tend to build assets steadily over time.
Love, marriage and remedies
Krittika partners are protective and sincere, though they may show love through duty more than romance. They need respect and honesty in return. Its yoni is the sheep (goat), at ease with another sheep yoni and considered opposite to the monkey. Its nadi is Kapha (Antya), so a different nadi in the partner is traditionally preferred. Being Rakshasa gana, traditional matching favours another Rakshasa gana partner or a careful look at the full chart.
For remedies, offer water to the rising Sun, recite the Aditya Hridayam on Sundays, and chant “Om Agnaye Namah” while lighting a ghee lamp. Ruby is linked with the Sun, but consult an experienced jyotishi before wearing any gemstone.

Traditionally the syllables are A, I, U and E (आ, ई, उ, ए) for padas 1 to 4. Names like Aditya, Ishan, Uma or Ekta fit this tradition.
What is the gana of Krittika nakshatra?
Krittika belongs to Rakshasa gana, which some tables call Asura. In plain words it means strong will and independence, not anything negative.
