Meaning of Rohini
Rohini means “the red one” or “the one who rises and grows”. In the sky it is the reddish star Aldebaran. The name carries the feeling of a seed sprouting in fertile soil, and Rohini is indeed linked with farming, cattle, gardens and everything that grows when cared for.
The ruling planet is the Moon (Chandra), and the Moon is especially strong in Vrishabha. That makes Rohini one of the most comfortable placements for the mind: calm, sensitive and attracted to beauty.
Brahma, Chandra and the ox cart
The deity of Rohini is Brahma (Prajapati), the creator. Rohini is therefore the star of creation: making, producing and bringing ideas into form. Its symbol is a chariot or ox cart, the vehicle that carries the harvest home.
The Puranas tell that the 27 nakshatras were daughters of Daksha, all married to Chandra, and that Chandra loved Rohini most. The other sisters complained, Daksha cursed Chandra to wane, and Lord Shiva softened the curse so that the Moon waxes again. The story explains both Rohini’s charm and the waxing and waning of the Moon. Lord Krishna is also traditionally said to have been born in Rohini nakshatra.
Nature and personality
Rohini natives are usually attractive, soft-spoken and artistic, with a love of good food, clothes, music and nature. They are patient and steady, and they build things slowly and well. People feel at ease around them.
Because Rohini enjoys comfort, it can become possessive about people and things, or resist change for too long. A little flexibility and the habit of sharing keep the abundance flowing. Their Manushya gana keeps them grounded in family and worldly goals.
The four padas of Rohini
Pada 1 (Mesha navamsa): more active and ambitious than the other padas, quick to start projects and lead.
Pada 2 (Vrishabha navamsa): the heart of Rohini, deeply sensual, stable and focused on wealth, family and beauty.
Pada 3 (Mithuna navamsa): witty and expressive, good with words, trade, media and the arts.
Pada 4 (Karka navamsa): emotional, nurturing and home-loving, with strong intuition and love for mother and children.
Career and money
Rohini shines in creative and productive work: agriculture, dairy, food business, hotels, fashion, jewellery, cosmetics, interior design, music, film and the fine arts. Its Moon nature also suits nursing, counselling and public-facing roles. Many Rohini people do well in real estate and banking.
They tend to save, enjoy owning property and like financial security. Money usually grows for Rohini through patience rather than risk.
Love, marriage and remedies
Rohini is romantic, loyal and caring in marriage, and values a peaceful, beautiful home. It has serpent yoni, at ease with another serpent yoni and traditionally opposite to the mongoose, and Kapha (Antya) nadi, so a partner with a different nadi is preferred in Kundli Milan. A gentle, appreciative partner suits Rohini best.
For remedies, worship Lord Shiva or Goddess Parvati on Mondays, offer milk or water on the Shivalinga, and chant “Om Somaya Namah” or “Om Brahmane Namah”. Keeping a small plant at home and caring for cows are also traditional. Pearl is linked with the Moon, but consult an experienced jyotishi before wearing any gemstone.
